WE LOVE Fall here at Purely Sunnah - kicking around in the golden leaves, wrapping up in your favorite sweater but still enjoying the sun on your face, nature walks and long nights enjoyed by the fireplace…bliss!
With the change of seasons it is important to transition into your Fall/Winter skincare routine. Your skin is the barrier between the internal and external world and as much as you may wish summer would last forever, for most people reading this, it’s just not summertime anymore. Temperatures may vary greatly from one day to the next, it can be hot and humid during the day and cooler and dryer at night. The water in the air affects the balance of hydration in the skin. A humid climate can soften skin and make it easy to maintain fullness, but a dryer climate can dehydrate the skin, making it more likely to show fine lines and wrinkles.
As always, we believe any skincare routine should begin with gently cleansing the skin the right way. Frequent hot showers or baths can sometimes strip your skin of natural oils, so be sure to pat dry, and moisturize while your skin is still damp to lock in the moisture.
It’s best to use a cream or body butter in the fall and winter. We’re transitioning into cold windy days, heaters blasting, and less water in the air all of which suck the hydration out of our skin leaving behind a dry and flaky surface that highlights lines and wrinkles.
Skin also tends to naturally produce less oil in the fall and winter months. You'll want to seal the water in the skin and preserve moisture when the humidity is low. Applying a moisturizer that's oil-based will create a protective layer on the skin that retains the moisture. Our Body Butter contains 40% Organic Mango Butter for intense and lasting hydration or you can try our Body Lotion formulated with Jojoba Oil and Mango Butter to maintain soft, moist, glowing skin.
As much as we'd all love to hang on to that summer glow, when it begins to fade your skin may begin to appear dull. A sugar scrub will buff off the flakes, and give your body the pampering it craves. Our Body Polish is made with Organic Cane Sugar, and offers gentle cleansing, exfoliation and a moisturizer all in one step, leaving your skin rejuvenated.
Last but not least, don't forget about your lips they need love too during the colder months, keep a tube of our Lip Balm in your purse or pocket to pamper your lips on the go and to maintain intensely soft, moisturized lips be sure to exfoliate them at least once a week using our Lip Polish.
Have you ever wanted to make your own Sugar Scrub? We are sharing a super simple, easy to make at home Sugar Scrub formula that can be used to buff away the dull skin caused by the changing of the temps.
Peppermint Hot Chocolate Sugar Scrub
6 tbsp white sugar
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp cocoa butter, melted
2 tbsp fractionated coconut oil
5-10 drops peppermint essential oil
Use your hands to blend the sugars together, and then work in the oils and essential oils. Place in a jar, but don’t pack it down or you’ll have a hard time getting it out, you want it crumbly.
